Project-Based Learning (Science & Social Studies) - As we move towards project-based learning, we look to the NextGen Science Standards to guide our Science instruction. We work to incorporate them with common core reading and writing, and the Maine Learning Results Social Studies Standards to integrate the subject areas into meaningful 21st Century projects to help students engage in their learning and make connections.
STEAM - Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math. We have introduced a STEAM Position to our rotation of classes. The STEAM teacher works with the classroom teacher to develop exciting ways of integrating classroom project-based learning into STEAM.

Testing
At Sedgwick Elementary school classroom teachers assess students regularly using both formative and summative assessments in their classes.
We also participate in the Maine Through Year Assessment for students in grades 3-8 both in the fall and in the spring.
We use The Fountas and Pinnell reading assessments to monitor student reading progress in grades K-8 once per trimester.
We use the Fastbridge Testing in grades K-8 to monitor progress in math, language arts, and social emotional learning in the fall and spring and as needed to monitor growth.
As part of the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) federal law, we are required to provide to parents and community members the NCLB report card.
